The Hollywood School House :

The Hollywood School House, formerly The Hollywood Little Red School House, is situated on Highland Avenue near Fountain. From the outside, it looks exactly like its old name . . . a very quaint, very small, and very red school house, but when you enter the campus you realize why they changed the name. It has grown considerably over the years.

The campus extends back an entire city block and is over half a city block in width. It also has its own 35 ft. pool. When you arrive at the front desk, you must sign in before they buzz you into the main school through a locked door. Once in the school, you realize how deceiving the front of the building is . . . it goes on and on.

There are four separate buildings: Building 1 houses the preschoolers and the administration offices; Building 2 is the home of junior kindergarten and the kindergartners; Building 3 looks after the elementary and middle school; Building 4 contains a very well stocked library, a dance studio, an up to date computer lab, and classrooms for 3rd-and 4th-graders.

I have been told by a number of people whose children attend the school that, if there is trouble out on the streets, they send their security people (often hired from the neighborhood) out to deal with it! I like that, and I felt incredibly safe every time I went to pick up my neighbor’s children. They have a state-of-the-art security system installed, and there is a heavy presence of staff out on the playground at all times. In fact, I saw a young boy sitting alone one day, and it wasn’t long before one of the staff was right there beside him asking if everything was OK. It really warmed my heart to see that sort of concern. The kid jumped right back up and began playing shortly after.
