Mayfield
has a large, attractive campus with several athletic
fields, basketball and handball courts, a large auditorium
(with a knotty-pine stage for dramatic performances).
a convent chapel, and a beautiful, well-stocked library. |
The campus has an old-fashioned feeling about it with
a collection of buildings from the thirties, fifties,
sixties, seventies, and eighties! The classrooms are
large and bright (all air-conditioned) with lots of
windows. The only thing that detracts from an otherwise
outstanding physical setting is the chain-linked fences
that seem to separate every little out-side area, and
chop it up in such a way as to lose the open feeling
one could have on this large piece of property.
I found the library to
be a high-point on the parent tour. It is located in
the Pike Resource center and is beautifully laid out
with lots of large, round tables. It has a lower level,
with pillows on the floor for a more relaxing read.
Above this reading area is a large, round window allowing
lots of natural light to come in, giving the whole room
a charming feel.
Mayfield is a Catholic
school committed to the philosophy of Cornelia Connelly,
founder of the Society of the Holy Child, who believed
in the spirit and talents of the individual. The school
provides a traditional academic and religious education
challenging each child to reach his or her potential.
