Brentwood School
Brentwood School expanded from a seventh through twelfth grade, one-campus school to a kindergarten through twelfth grade, two-campus school in the fall of 1995. The West Campus enrolls 300 students from kindergarten through grade 6. The East Campus currently accommodates 690 students.
Brentwood's elementary campus is a beautifully landscaped 3.5 acre site located between Saltair and Bundy on Sunset Blvd. The facilities include a three-story main building with 14 classrooms, a small library, a common meeting area with stage, and a soccer/football field and basketball court. There are also freestanding science and art facilities with their own restrooms and outdoor flagstone patios.
The kindergarten has a separate, secured outside area with tables, a grassy play area with swings, and climbing equipment. The entire campus is fenced, and an updated security system is in place.
The campus is large and open, but there is noise from Sunset Blvd. The main building is built into a hillside, thus the lower floors facing the slope have a closed-in feeling. All the walls are bright white and there are drop-ceilings which even made me (I'm 5'4") feel like I was in munchkin-land.
There are 28 teachers, two classes at each grade level, and approximately 21 students per class. Children receive instruction from their core teachers in language arts, social studies, and math. They travel to other classrooms for specialist teachers in art, music, computer and physical education. Health classes begin in first grade, and Spanish is taught starting in the third grade.
